Service · Timber repairs
Softwood sills, door frames, fascias, soffits and weatherboards on the older Ramsgate housing stock take a beating from the salt easterlies. Left long enough they rot through the paint line and the frame goes. Caught early they're a resin-repair-and-repaint job.
Regency sill rot. West Cliff Regency box-sash windows sit in a softwood sill that's been repainted every seven or eight years since 1830. The rot always starts at the outer edge where the paint film has cracked and rain has tracked underneath. Splicing beats replacing the whole sill nine times out of ten.
St Lawrence Victorian bay fronts. The Victorian villa bay-window returns take southerly rain and westerly sun. Fascia rot below the eaves is the classic five-year callout. We match the timber section and paint to the original.
Coastal paint systems. A standard interior gloss brushed on an exterior sill fails inside two winters here. We spec Sikkens Cetol or Sadolin Superdec on any external timber facing the sea. Costs a bit more per tin, lasts three times as long.
A single-sill splice-and-paint is a full day including drying time between primer and top coat. A full fascia run is two days on a two-storey property.
£150 to £400 per sill repair. £280 to £600 for a door-frame splice. £45 to £75 per metre for fascia and soffit renewal. Timber and paint at cost.
